Pal Ewam Namgyal Choedhe Thupten Dhargyeling Monastery is one of the ancient, historical monasteries in Upper Mustang, where masses of ardent devotees inevitably visited to worship and practise traditional ritual performances. This monastery is in the northern range of Nepal near the Tibet border, at an altitude of 3,850 meters from sea level.

Our Story

In summer 2005, Mrs Francesca Stengel and her friend Mrs Mariagrazia Ferro had chosen Mustang, the ancient and remote Kingdom of Lo, as their trekking destination. Their drive to walk the paths of Upper Mustang came from a deep love for the Himalayan Mountains and especially their interest in the spiritual dimension of that region deeply rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, culture and traditions.

Trinkhar Nunnery was a Labrang (A resident of Lama) during Jetsun kanga Drolchok (1507–1566) in the 16th Century. It was a retreat residence of Jetsun kanga Drolchok. Till earlier 17th Century, it was a residence of Lamas, generally worshipped as a temple or a shrine by local people. After combining Phuphak Samten Ling, Rishing Domsum Ling, and Jampa Shedpling to Namgyal Choedhe Thupten Dhargyeling Monastery, it came to have two Khenpos (Abbots).

In the year 2010, Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Rigzin was invited to Ipoh, Malaysia, to give dharma teachings and perform ritual pujas. Mrs. Dolma Sew Wai Mun met Ven. Khenpo Tsewang for the first time at that dharma event. At the event, she noticed his compassion towards devotees, honesty, humbleness and dedication. She was deeply overwhelmed by Khenpo's nature.

Venerable Khenpo Tsewang Rigzin established Namgon Retreat Centre, The Prosper of Virtuous Meditation. On 15 April 2021, Venerable Khenpo Palden Zangpo and the Assembly member of Gandaki Province Honorable Indra Dhara Bista inaugurated this retreat centre. Namgon Retreat Center is open for everyone who truly wishes to invest their time in spiritual practice. This retreat centre is built on a peaceful hill near 'Fewa Lake' in Pokhara, Nepal.
